The month of love is fast approaching so I’m finding absolutely any excuse to fill my home with some fresh, new DIY decor. New decor? Yes. New craft project? Absolutely.
In the true spirit of Valentine’s day, these will be inspired by all things love and romance so let’s get into some lovely Valentine’s Day decorations to sweeten our homes!
Here are some of our favourite Valentine’s day décor ideas for this year:
Hanging Window Hearts
Paper hearts are one of the simplest crafts to make that can lend a hand onto so many other crafty projects. For such an easy papercraft, they can create a big impact like these hanging window hearts! We’re loving Casey’s dreamy pastel watercolour hearts that float delicately by the windows or even on your front door! Try a variety of different colors to match your own space!
Hanging Paper Heart Tree
For a quicker decor idea, use some coloured paper tied with string for an instant cute and quick 3D hanging ornament. Grab something simple like a few spare twigs and branches from the garden and hang your ornaments from them to transform something seemingly simple into something beautiful! This is a great way to incorporate nature into your home!
Felt Ball Garland
I find that an easy way to switch up your living room decor is to seasonally swap out a hanging garland from your mantelpiece. Rachel’s gone for a vibrant pink and white and peppered in some heart shape felt balls for the peak Valentine’s day look!
Heart-shaped Pom Poms
An easy and effective DIY Valentine’s day decoration (which is a personal favourite of mine!) are pom poms! Check out these adorable heart-shaped ones that are quick to whip up with only some yarn and scissors! These would look great as a part of a centrepiece or to create a cute hanging garland.
Paper Heart Wreath
If your door could do with freshening up and you want to add some more interest and a little love back into your home, then look no further. These concertinaed paper hearts look adorable on their own but even more impactful layered up as part of a hanging wreath. I love the addition of the draping ribbon bow to add a point of interest.
Pom Pom Heart Wreath
If you already know how to make a pom pom, why not try and make a hanging wreath in the shape of a heart for this hoiday of love? The bold shape and romantic colours make a fun and whimsical front door hanging which would look great in any doorway!
Dried Flower Wreath
If there’s one thing we all associate with Valentine’s day, it’s the abundance of flowers! Yes, maybe they are usually accompanied with a box of chocolates and a stuffed teddy bear but let’s turn them into a craft that you can enjoy all year round! This dried flower diy valentine’s day wreath is perfect for this time of year and even better in the shape of a heart. Don’t have dried flowers? Try faux flowers instead!
Love Heart Flower Bouquet
Add some life into your home with some pink flowers! If you’re looking for a fun and creative way to display your fresh flowers then look at this bouquet that’s been surrounded with candy hearts and finished off with a neat bow! A super easy DIY project that the kids can get involved with too.
Simple Heart Mug
Clay crafts have been growing in popularity the past few years so if you think you want a go at it then this simple mug design is an easy way to begin or to upcycle something you already have! It’d also be the perfect way to hold candies or display flowers in the kitchen or a cute idea for a gift.
DIY Graphic Print
A simple and effective way of changing the whole dynamic of a room is to change your wall decor and artwork. If you can’t afford to splash out on new prints then this tutorial has a quick and easy method of creating a Valentine’s day inspired graphic print. This fun and versatile design means you can adapt to your own colours to suit your home. Wouldn’t these look great in old picture frames? You can even create valentine’s card or love notes using the same technique.
Hand Painted Candles
Candles are a home essential but can sometimes be dull to look at or can look tired. Inject a new life into them simply by painting them! These candlesticks have been completely transformed with cute hearts and delicate flowers all in a romantic colour palette to create the perfect centrepiece or great addition to a mantel.
Yarn Wrapped Hearts
We love a good string art project! This next Valentine’s day craft can be done with any leftover yarn or scrap cardboard. These yarn hearts are a quick and easy craft that is suitable for children too – in under 30 minutes you’ll have lots of multi-coloured yarn hearts at your disposal. Hang these around your home or fill a decorative jar with these to display proudly!
Neutral XO
If pinks and reds are not your style, go for a cosy and neutral vibe with these X and O fillers that would look fab thrown in a decorative bowl or propped up as an addition to a decorative shelf. I love that these are a gentle nod to Valentine’s day in your home decor without overwhelming the space.
Love Heart Boxes
If you’re a quirky and bright decor kind of person then I have the perfect DIY decor for you! Jennifer teaches us how to make these 3D paper conversation hearts in all different sizes intended to be used as a banner or to be displayed in a glass vase or as shelf decor. A quick adaptation could turn these into storage boxes to store your tidbits!
Honeycomb Hearts
Honeycomb hearts look so intricate and impressive but are also so easy to make by hand! We’re loving the muted colours and use of frosted paper to make these as they give the whole project a romantic style for this season of love. Imagine these suspended over your dining room table at different sizes and levels or making mini hearts to hang from your plants!
Paper Chain Hearts
Paper chains sound like a kids craft but let’s elevate them and make paper chain hearts. A simple change to the shape can alter the whole dynamic of how these look. These would be beautiful draped across a bookshelf or hanging from a mantlepiece!
Hugs and Kisses Paper Garland
If Valentine’s day is a heart-shaped overload for you – try a simple X and O pattern that connect seamlessly together to create this sleek and fun paper garland. Imagine this draped across a wall gallery or hanging from some decorative shelves to add some extra interest.
Beaded Heart Ornaments
Who said Christmas is the only time you can display fancy ornaments? If you’re already missing the charm of Christmas decorations, we’re loving these beaded felt heart ornaments by Tanya. Not only do they look luxurious and intricate but they are much easier to make then you’d think! Leave them as simple felt ornaments or jazz them up with beads – either way, you’re onto a winner!
