MAKE: DIY Painted Watercolor Mug

This post was created by Wonder Forest contributor Melisa of Pie ‘N The Sky

I love all things watercolor – it’s one of my favorite mediums. I wanted to make something as a just-for-fun project and not necessarily something I neeeeeded. But let’s be honest, who doesn’t need a watercolor mug?? Yeah, thought so! This is probably the easiest diys I’ve shared… And I promise you’ll have fun and maybe even find yourself being relaxed by it!

S U P P L I E S :: all surface paint, porcelain dish, paintbrush, water, oven

1) Take your paint brush and dip the tip in your paint of choice. Then dip it in your water. Brush it along the top part of your mug, so that the paint drips down. I wanted it to be pretty washed out, so I used significantly more water then paint. You can have fun with your colors and even design! I think it would be pretty if there was no white space and completely painted. I really liked having the veins running down for this one.

2) Allow your paint to dry for about 15-20mins. Once it is completely dry, heat your oven to 350 degrees and place the mug in there for 20mins. This will help to seal the paint and ensure that it stays on while you drink/wash it. Make sure you use all purpose paint, so that it’s safe to be on your dish!

I know it’s a really subtle look, but I think it’s so whimsical and beautiful. I hope you enjoy drinking your tea from your pretty new mug!
